Filipino bistek tataki

Ingredients

  • 1b prime ribeye steak

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 tbsps soy sauce

  • 3 tbsps lemon juice

  • 6 green onions

  • Salt to taste 

Directions

  1. Season steak liberally with salt on both sides

  2. Heat a medium sized frying pan to high heat and add the vegetable oil

  3. Sear the steak for 1 minute on each side. It should be rare on the inside

  4. Remove the steak from the pan and place in a plate. Place the plate in the freezer for about 45 minutes

  5. Slice the bottom part of the green onions into little pieces

  6. Slice the top part of the green onions on a bias by cutting at a 45-degree angle.

  7. Add the bottom part of the onions to the pan and sauté for 3 minutes.

  8. After 45 minutes, take the steak out of the freezer and slice thinly.

  9. Make the sauce by mixing the olive oil, soy sauce and lemon juice.

  10. Place the steak slices on a plate. Top with the cooked green onions, then add the raw green onions. Pour the sauce.
